stained glass Conservation

Charlotte holds a Master’s degree in Stained Glass Conservation and Heritage Management from the University of York and was awarded the Award for Excellence in 2016. The prize took the form of a 40-week scholarship, enabling her to work in studios across Europe and gain valuable experience in some of the world’s leading stained glass conservation studios, including Canterbury Cathedral, Cologne Cathedral and the Conservation Department of the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany.

Charlotte has also developed her practice in commercial studios such as Holy Well Glass and Barley Studio and collaborates regularly with Vitralls Can Pinyonaire in Girona, Spain. With this, Charlotte has developed a wide range of experience in the conservation of historic stained glass. She has led conservation projects ranging from fifteenth-century Austrian stained glass to nineteenth-century Morris Company stained glass, each era having diverse conservation issues, from glass corrosion to paint loss.

In addition to working freelance, Charlotte keeps up-to-date with current projects and techniques by attending conferences and webinars frequently. Working in the Conservation Group for the British Society of Master Glass Painters, she takes part in meetings and conferences for the Society’s members to keep networking and CPD events regular and varied, aiming to highlight best practice in the industry.
